When it comes to human rights the need to protect them is now more important than ever. The effect of humanitarian crisis taking place around the globe has seen a lot of immigration happening and as this immigrant move to other countries, they automatically become the most vulnerable people in society.
There is a need to protect them and ensure that they are treated with fairness and equality through and through without any form of discrimination. There are various organizations that have taken on this burden fighting for migrants as well as all other civil liberties below we look at them.
Border Action Network
The border action network was formed in 1999 in Arizona it brought together people who had a passion for fighting for immigrants especially those trickling in from Mexico. The Border Action Network has worked with border communities and this immigrant within Arizona.
In their mission, they state that “to ensure that our rights are respected, our human dignity upheld and that our communities are healthy places to live.” They work on a membership-based model where they organize the grassroots communities which help in policy advocacy, leadership development, and litigation. There work has been extensive and it is through their efforts that they have been able to help a lot of migrant’s access legal services and avoid detention and deportation when all legal ways have not been exhausted.
Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service
Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service has been helping in refugee-related areas for the last seventy years they lead a campaign to welcome to some of the United States most vulnerable newcomers. They are guided by their pledge to always do what is right for humanity and be bold when it comes to implementing their vision and mission across the nation.
These endeavors have not been in vain as they have seen them help some of the most vulnerable refugees who would have otherwise no way to cope with the new environment they find themselves in.
Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund
This is an organization that started out in Maricopa County in the same county as Sheriff Joe Arpaio. In fact, his actions played a role in the establishment of the fund. Due to his disregard for the first amendment right he would make an arbitrary arrest of two journalists Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin who he later detained and took to court.
The courts upon taking on the matter concluded that it was based on false allegations and threw it out it is at this juncture that the two sued and in 2012 they won their case and the county settled for over three million dollars.
This money was directed towards the formation of the Frontera fund that would be dedicated to helping migrants overcome the legal hurdles they faced especially those in the Hispanic community.
The fund has been able to partner with various other individuals and organizations to help in whatever way they are able. The impact that has been made by their operations has widely been felt in Arizona and they continue to ensure human rights are respected.
