President Trump used his

Twitter

like a megaphone during his tenure. If he leaves his office, he’ll have to abide by other rules.

Mr. Trump can now delete tweets or suspend his Twitter account with less risk than ordinary citizens. Mr Trump’s Twitter account, which has more than 88 million followers, will no longer enjoy special privileges when he becomes a private citizen, a Twitter spokesperson said.

Nick Pasilio.

I said.

The loss of privileges reserved for heads of state and government would mean that if Mr Trump broke the rules of the site, these tweets would be removed instead of being reported in the future, Pacillo said. Mr Trump’s tweets were repeatedly noted by the company before and after the elections, often with the warning that this allegation of voter fraud had been challenged.

Twitter may face a politically sensitive decision about the scope of its use if it breaks the rules after leaving the office. The company has not yet decided how it will deal with Mr Trump’s future political misconduct and plans to review its account on a case-by-case basis, said a person familiar with the subject.

Over the past year, Twitter has developed several strategies to combat misinformation on its platform, and these may need to evolve, according to

Mock Call

President Trump has used Twitter to unsubstantiatedly question the legitimacy of the vote in previous elections. In 2020, it focused on postal ballots and, from election day onwards, on allegations of electoral fraud.

I expect Twitter will continue to follow the news of his tweets and let him push the envelope, he said about Trump and his possible rerun at the White House in 2024.

The White House refused to comment.

Trump said the Twitter was out of control and said he was censoring his opinion of the election. Mr M. Trump also called for a review of Section 230 of the Decency in Communications Act. This provision has given online companies a broad exemption from legal liability for the actions of their users and a great deal of discretion in controlling the content of their sites.

Mr. Trump is the first president to regularly use his personal Twitter account to communicate with the public outside of advertisements. He tweeted about official appointments and duds, asked for information and gave his opinion on a number of things. His tweets, usually written by him or the White House social media director.

Dan Scavino,

often contain answers in the form of a word, capital letters or exclamation marks.

The post M. Tweets urging violation of the rules against glorification of violence first appeared on Twitter in May. In recent months, the company has used the labels to investigate numerous allegations of election fraud by Mr. Trump on the platform. There is no evidence of widespread electoral fraud.

Twitter said its approach to heads of state, candidates and officials is based on the principle that people should be able to choose what their leaders say, with a clear context. This policy prohibits tweets that encourage terrorism, violence or self-injury, that involve the sexual trade of children, or that share personal information, photos or videos without permission. Twitter stated that it applied a different standard to messages from politicians than from ordinary citizens, because messages from politicians can have informative value.

…in public and private at a presidential race in 2024. Looking ahead, Twitter has not yet revealed what the threshold will be for the presidential nomination in 2024.

Leading candidates for the House, Senate or Governor’s office will be tweeted and tagged as official candidates if they have documents from the Federal Election Commission and a list of ballot papers in the candidate’s name.

If Mr Trump continues to violate Twitter rules after leaving the office, Twitter, as a non-government platform, could write out the bill like any other private citizen, he said.

Jamil Jaffer,

Executive Director of the First Amendment Knight Institute at Columbia University. Part of what makes Twitter powerful is that it improves the language, he said. When Twitter decides to keep voice on the platform, it allows that voice to be amplified.

Once Biden is sworn in as president, Twitter will also move a dozen other official presidential accounts toward the new administration, including @WhiteHouse, @Potus and @Flotus, Pasilio said.

Twitter will reset the passwords for these accounts and share ownership with the National Archives and the Administration of Files.

The Nationaal Archief has confirmed in a statement that it will preserve and archive the material from these official accounts. The @Potus account will be renamed to @Potus45 and will be frozen on Twitter, according to the statement. According to the statement, Mr. Trump will retain control of his personal @realDonaldTrump account after his presidency.

Since Mr Trump’s inauguration in January 2017, he continues to use his personal account, which he has held since March 2009. The White House uses the @Potus account that President Obama first opened.

During Obama’s transition to M. Trump’s account designations, the account designations changed to, for example, @ObamaWhiteHouse and @Potus44.

Twitter is in talks with Biden’s transition team on a number of issues relating to the transfer of accounts, Pacillo said. Twitter will provide the Biden team with new pens that will only have the content of the Biden team, according to people who know the subject well.

Twitter said last Tuesday that the White House’s official accounts, including @Potus and @WhiteHouse, would not retain their current supporters.

Instead, Twitter will notify followers of these accounts to let them know that content will be archived and give them the option to follow the new accounts from Biden’s administration, Twitter said. For example, people following @WhiteHouse will be informed that the account is archived as @WhiteHouse45 and will be able to follow the new @WhiteHouse account.

Rob Flaherty, Biden’s digital campaign manager, tweeted Tuesday in response to a magazine article that Twitter had told the Biden team that its official Twitter accounts should start from scratch. Flaherty added in a follow-up tweet that the Biden team had withdrawn and said the decision was clear.

On Tuesday afternoon @Potus had 33.2 million followers and @WhiteHouse had 26 million followers.

The 2017 version of the White House’s official Twitter accounts, followed by millions of people, has experienced technical problems and complaints from some Twitter users about the process.

Jason Goldman,

who became the first digital director of the White House under the Obama administration, said the @Potus account was also created for future presidents.

It is clear that the followers who are part of this account are part of the cost of building up this institutional capacity, according to Goldman, who used to be Twitter’s product manager. Just like the Whitehouse.gov site is another asset that remains from administration to administration.
