In each calendar year since 2012, at least six managers have been dismissed from the Premier League. In two of the last three years (2017 and 2019) this number has risen to nine. COVID-19 has had a devastating effect on football, as it has on all other sectors of life, but managers have at least benefited from a longer lifespan in the hiring process.

After Nigel Pearson left Watford with two races to go, Sam Allardyce had to stay until the 16th minute. In December we have to wait for the replacement of Slaven Bilic in West-Brom – one of two changes in the first division in 2020. The financial impact of COWID-19 makes the cost of dismissing an executive increasingly important. The lack of training time on the range due to the compression of the competition schedule is also quite sympathetic to wrestlers trying to take over.

But patience cannot last forever, not least because the price of relegation or not qualifying for the Champions League will be even higher after a season in which there was almost no income from stadium banned matches. So, who could be the next candidate for a discount?

On the hottest seat

Neither Sheffield United nor Arsenal want to lay off managers who exceeded expectations last season, but Chris Wilder and Mikel Arteta can no longer remain in their hands.

Wilder is the second most popular player to fire most bookmakers, but the threat of relegation is very real: Two points from the first 14 races is the worst start in the history of the English elite. They’re already ten points off the pace, but they wouldn’t want to fire the man who brought their club back into the Premier League. Artema won the FA Cup last season and was promoted from head coach to director in September. So his odds look a bit slim given the internal awareness of the magnitude of the task, but by defeating Chelsea, Brighton and West Brom during the Christmas period, Arsenal could end up in the bottom three.

Threatened with worse results

Steve Bruce had foreseen his death as manager of Newcastle United last summer, when it seemed as if the Saudi takeover would take place. Take her when she’s 12. In this context, it seems a success to show the way, but the magpies’ football is largely horrible and the fans are not convinced. Graham Potter was tasked with introducing a better style for Brighton and Hove Albion , but they have only won two championship games throughout the season.

Manchester United continues to go from greatness to disaster under the leadership of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He has experienced some tough times over the last two years, but Mauricio Pochettino won’t be available for long and United’s form is so erratic that the club seems to be stuck in a cycle that the Norwegian is trying to break.

Safety … as long as

Scott Parker seemed doomed at the beginning of the season, but the transfer activity of Fulhamat the end of the summer didn’t help their case. Six players from the side who had signed with Liverpool earlier this month were sent away after the first stage. September has begun. However, Fulham remains in the bottom three and must deliver on its promises now that it is supported by the market.

Burnley have also started with a three-win streak in their last six races, relieving the pressure on Sean Dyche. Chelsea has given Frank Lampard 220 million pounds to new players this summer and should at least finish in the top four. Lampard’s legendary status as a player will save him more time than most Chelsea managers, but the ruthlessness of owner Roman Abramovich knows no bounds.

David Moyes started the season under pressure, but after permanently connecting midfielder Declan Rice with Chelsea, he led the West Ham man into the top half of the table with results such as wins in Leicester and pulls against Tottenham and Manchester City.

Sam Allardyce has never been demoted, but faces a real challenge: West Brom with five points in 19th place after 14 games. He will earn a £2 million bonus if he chooses to join the Baggies, and he will certainly have a good chance of doing so. Aston Villa managed to get through last season’s last race, but look forward to a comfortable season as they climb to ninth place. Dean Smith also managed to convince Jack Grealish to commit his future to the club with a new contract.

Wolves is stuck in the middle of the table, but it is a measure of what Nuno Espirito Santo has done that seems a slight disappointment. That’s two points and two places above Crystal Palace, where Roy Hodgson continues to lead his team to victory with a comfortable cushion.

Leeds United would be at the top of the league table if rewards equalled points, but Marcelo Bielsa’s expansive style continues to enjoy the full approval of the team and fans. Jose Mourinho’s attitude can still be tackled very quickly, but Tottenham leads Crystal Palace, Liverpool and Leicester with just one point out of nine games. His rebirth is far from over.

No danger

Jurgen Klopp will certainly keep Liverpool on his terms, even though their grip on the Premier League is not yet assured. The same goes for Pep Guardiola, who has just signed a new contract extension at Manchester City with the aim of returning to the top.

Ralph Hasenhuttle saw remarkable changes at Southampton , which turned out to be a surprising top-6 contender this season, and Everton, where Carlo Ancelotti led the Merseysiders to fourth place after a summer of smart gains.

Brendan Rodgers ended the late collapse of Leicester Seativ last season – and the subsequent lack of a Champions League berth – to put them back in the running.
