There have been a lot of transfers in the NBA this season, and it seemed like a lot of teams had ambitions to win now. It seemed like most teams in the league were tinkering, and many players were now on different teams.

But despite the incredible number of deals that took place, there were also a few notable deals that didn’t go through. Whatever the reason, there were a fair number of inflated potential trades that failed at the deadline. Here are the top 5 NBA trades that didn’t happen before the deadline.

5. John Collins Warriors

(via Lake Show Life)

John Collins is one of the best young big men in the league and is currently averaging 18.1 PPG and 7.8 RPG. Collins will be a free agent at the end of the season and there are rumors that the Atlanta Hawks will fire him to prevent him from taking on a big contract.

The team that failed to impress was the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors made a few small trades, but didn’t really make any changes to the roster to help Stephen Curry make the playoffs. They had some assets and an expiring contract with Kelly Oubre Jr. that could be traded for an acquisition like John Collins. Although Collins would have been fantastic on this Warriors team, no trade came about and Collins remained in Atlanta.

4. LaMarcus Aldridge to warm up

(via Yardbarker.com)

Many expected someone to make a trade for LaMarcus Aldridge. Although LaMarcus Aldridge is in the latter days of his career, he can still contribute to a team in the race and possibly be a starter in this league. According to some rumors, the Miami Heat wanted Aldridge, but the deal didn’t materialize, so the San Antonio Spurs bought out LaMarcus Aldridge’s contract.

Once LaMarcus Aldridge completes his buyout from the Spurs, the Miami Heat should emerge as the favorite to contract him, sources told ESPN. Aldridge plans to talk to several teams before making a final decision.

Aldridge can still come to Miami now that he’s a free agent, and he can start for them right away. The Miami Heat would be a good organization for Aldridge, and if they manage to contract him, they would be fully justified in not trading him.

3. Lonzo Ball for the Bulls

(via Yahoo! Sports).

Lonzo Ball is a point guard with a pretty extensive skill set. He is able to shoot a lot of three-pointers, play good defense and be one of the best distributors in the game. Lonzo Ball is going to get a big contract at the end of the season, which is why there have been rumors that the New Orleans Pelicans would trade him. The Chicago Bulls were one of the teams trying to trade for Lonzo Balls.

The Chicago Bulls are still looking for Lonzo Ball, according to @wojespn.

The Chicago Bulls managed to get Nikola Vucevic in, but were empty-handed in front of Lonzo Ball. Lonzo Ball would bring the Chicago Bulls someone who can lead the offense, and his play would be valuable alongside the two top scorers, Zach LaVine and Nikola Vucevic. Despite the pressure from the Bulls, Lonzo Ball is still in New Orleans, and they will continue to have his services for at least the rest of the season.

2. Kyle Lowry vs. 76ers.

Kyle Lowry was a player that many teams coveted early on. Lowry was a multiple All-Star and NBA champion. Lowry is a great defender and an excellent shooter and playmaker. He would help any opponent, and it was reported that the 76ers wanted to trade him at some point during the trade deadline.

Lowry was close to a transfer to the 76ers, but he will finish the season in Toronto. Lowry is 35 years old and could be competing for the championship if he is traded to the 76ers. Eventually, the 76ers started trading George Hill, but the acquisition of Lowry would have added another All-Star caliber player to the roster with a realistic chance of making the Finals.

1. DeMar DeRozan v Lakers

DeMar DeRozan is a player who signed a contract with the San Antonio Spurs last year. DeRozan is a top creator and playmaker, and some have argued that he deserves a spot on the All-Star Team this season. The San Antonio Spurs offered DeMar DeRozan in a trade, but the deal fell through.

The Spurs have informed @JakeLFischer that DeMar DeRozan is available for a trade.

DeMar DeRozan would be a good fit for the Los Angeles Lakers. DeMar DeRozan will give the Los Angeles Lakers a constant scoring edge and a third element that will potentially put them above elite teams. DeMar DeRozan with LeBron James and Anthony Davis would have been a terrifying sight, but unfortunately the swap didn’t happen.
