Oscar winner Emma Stone (La La Land) stars in Disney’s Cruella, a brand new feature film about the rebellious debut of one of cinema’s most famous – and infamous fashionable – villains, the legendary Cruella de Vil.
LIABLE : Cruella Disney’s first Cruella social media video Cruella, set in 1970’s London at the height of the punk rock revolution, follows a young con artist named Estella, a smart and creative girl determined to make a name for herself through her work as a designer. She befriends a couple of young thieves who appreciate her penchant for mischief, and together they manage to build a life on the streets of London. One day, Estella’s talent for fashion is uncovered by the legendary Baroness von Hellman, the tall and surprisingly chic Emma Thompson (Howards End, Sense & Sensibility), two-time Oscar winner. But their relationship sets in motion a series of events and revelations that will force Estella to embrace her evil side and become the turbulent, sophisticated and vengeful Cruella.
Disney’s new live-action adventure, Cruella, features a much younger version of the character than we’re used to. At the center of it all is the evil Disney icon Cruella de Vil, who tells the story of her life long before she became a maniacal dog killer. The film is set in the 1970s punk rock scene in London. The film follows a young designer, Cruella de Vil, who gradually becomes obsessed with dog fur, specifically Dalmatians, until she becomes the ruthless and terrifying legend we all love to hate.
Directed by myself, Tonya and Lars, and Craig Gillespie Real Girl to a script by Alina Brosh McKenna (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), Jez Butterworth (Ford vs. Ferrari), Kelly Marcelle (Venom) and Tony McNamara (Beloved), as well as Dana Fox and Steve Zissis, Cruella as Cruella de Vil and Emma Thompson as Baroness, Horace as Paul Walter Howser, Jasper as Joel Fry, Anita as Emily Beacham, Tabitha as Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Jamie Demetriou as Gerald and many more.
Cruella has been done with production for some time, but there have been few updates since. Until now, of course. Shazam star! Mark Strong, who plays Boris in Cruella, recently spoke about what audiences can expect from Disney’s iconic villain. What makes the film shine is that it tries to shed light on Cruella’s origins, which we think we know, he said. It’s a story of development where you see Cruella become the Cruella de Vil we know and love to hate.
Strong also talked about the scale of the film and what it would be like to be a part of such a large production. The cast returns to the fashion world of the 1970s, working with director Craig Gillespie and co-stars Emma Stone and Emma Thompson. I had a great time. Craig Gillespie, the director, was a big fan of mine, the actor revealed. I loved Me, Tonya, and I loved Lars and Real Girl, the movies he made before I met him. He just liked that we wanted to work together, and he asked me to play that role in Cruella.
It was great to be on the set. This is mass production. It has huge fashions and ballroom sequences that are so impressive. I have to be on set during that time and spend most of my time with two Emmas – Emma Stone and Emma Thompson. It was just great to talk to these guys in their spare time and then play with them and tell them this fantastic story that I think people will be excited about when the cameras turn. Cruella’s theatrical release is scheduled for the 28th. May 2021 expected in the United States.
