Everyone knows the New England Patriots are struggling to find a quarterback for the 2021 season.
Emphasis was placed on possible deals for actors such as Matthew Stafford and Deshaun Watson. Both are chimeras, although the former is more likely than the latter.
The Patriots will likely use their No. 15 pick to get Mack Jones out of Alabama, assuming he’s still in the picture when New England shows up.
There’s a chance he won’t. Jones was impressive in the Senior Bowl, and that could lead to the team grabbing him before the Patriots can get him, and Bill Belichick may not want to trade for Jones.
If that’s the case, or if Belichick just isn’t sold on Jones – certainly not at the 15th spot – he might want to add the young quarterback the team needs later in the draft.
The Patriots had an official meeting with quarterback Wake Forest and Jamie Newman during Thursday’s Senior Bowl practice.

Newman seems to like what the Patriots have.

Newman would not be the first choice of day.
After spending his first, second and third years at Wake Forest, Newman decided to move to Georgia. However, after the outbreak of the pandemic, Newman decided not to participate in the season and instead prepare for the 2021 NFL selection.
In three seasons at Wake Forest, Newman has shown promise as a setter and athlete. He is 6 feet tall, weighs 80 pounds, is athletic and has a knack for deep balls.

Newman threw for 2,868 yards, 26 TD and 11 inches as a junior. He ran for 574 yards and scored six goals this season. No real doubt about the strength of his arms, and athleticism is a physical threat on the ground.
Seems like the kind of candidate the Patriots might be interested in after Tom Brady.
He had a great time at theSenior Bowl.
Newman was the best quarterback in the Senior Bowl.

Even famed NFL scout Matt Miller praised him for his talent on the arm.
I haven’t seen Jamie Newman pitch in a long time. The ball bounces off the court. Lots of speed. Throw a nice ball.

Others also had positive comments about Newman’s performance in Mobile, Alabama.

Before the Senior Bowl, The Draft Network liked Newman, but called him a provisional QB. You wrote:
Wake Forest’s quarterback Jamie Newman is a promising prospect with good size, arm strength, mobility and balance. The Demonic Deacons took full advantage of his dual threat capabilities by introducing distribution concepts that gave him a simplified read where, if his first option wasn’t available, he had room to use his feet. Also at Wake Forest, the quarterback was able to shift the offense with his feet with great play and beautiful runs. Newman is a great athlete and physical runner. As a passer, Newman still has a lot of room for improvement in the areas of accuracy, decision making, field vision, progression, anticipatory hitting shots and pocket navigation. Newman should be considered a developing quarterback, but he brings with him an exciting set of physical attributes. You can’t expect him to take over the offense in the NFL early in his career, but you can put together packages for him to take advantage of his skills. If all goes well, Newman has what it takes to become an NFL starter, but he still has a long way to go.
It was discussed as a possibility for the Patriots
While this is the first formal connection between Newman and the Patriots, it’s not the first time someone has called him a target for New England. Over a month ago, I wrote how Brian M. Hines of Pats Pulpit, who selected the Patriots, went on to re-contract Cam Newton and select Newman in the fourth round.
It seems more feasible by the day. Yes, there’s still a chance Bill Belichick will contact Stafford and Newton. Even if that happens, there’s no reason why the Patriots couldn’t take Newman if he’s still available later in the project.
There are many options as the NFL offseason approaches.
