In recent weeks, there have been major changes to the next series of Willow. Earlier this month, it was announced that director John M. Chu had left the project due to unforeseen scheduling problems caused by several delays in the production of Pandemic. Then, earlier this week, it was announced that Jonathan Entwistle, best known for the Netflix series End of the F***ing World and I Disagree, would direct the pilot and be executive producer. Now Bot Entwistle and series writer Jonathan Kasdan have offered their opinions on the excitement.
Entwistle tweeted that he was honored to collaborate on the Lucasfilm project, and Kasdan again tweeted how he felt and how excited he was to work with Entwistle.
Do you have any idea how hard it was to find another Jonathan to work with as enthusiastically as the last one? After 10 days? We are very happy to continue the adventure with the brilliant Daikini at the helm, but I keep telling her – the last thing she needs is a hairy chest! https://t.co/x98GO9Fygd

“Do you have any idea how hard it was to find another Jonathan to work with as enthusiastically as we did for the last one? Ten days from now?” Kasdan shared. “I’m so happy to continue the adventure with this brilliant Daikini at the helm, but I keep telling her – the last thing she needs is a hairy chest!”
Chu had previously revealed that he would be leaving the series, explaining that a combination of production delays and family news meant that the project could not work for him and his family.
“It breaks my heart to announce to you all that I am sad to step down as director of Willow,” Chu wrote in a statement. “With the postponement of the shooting schedule due to ongoing closures in the UK and the arrival of a new baby this summer (surprise!), the weather is just not right for me and my family.”
He continued, “As you may know, Willow has been one of my favorite movies since I was a kid. So I’m devastated that I won’t be able to work with some of my old and new characters, like Katie [Kennedy], Ron [Howard], John [Kasdan], Wendy [Mericle], Michelle [Regvan] and the incredible team they’ve put together,” Chu said. “As a kid who first saw Willow in the 1980s, I’m a big fan and I can’t wait to see this new magical world unfold. Plus, they have an adventure waiting for you! I can’t wait for you all to experience it soon”.
Warwick Davis will star in the series, taking over his role from the original 1988 film. The new cast includes Ellie Bamber (Nocturnal Animals), Kaylee Spenny (Craft: Legacy) and Erin Kellyman (Solo) in the female lead trio alongside Davis. These three young women are part of the group whose mission is to rescue the captured prince. Bamber is Dove, a cook who discovers she is “the one.” Spini plays the role of Kit, the twin sister of the captured prince. Kellyman plays Jade, Keith’s maid and best friend.
Shooting of the series should begin this spring in Wales. No date has yet been set for the series’ premiere.
