Why is India known as a land of historical monuments?
India is a land of ancient monuments, grand palaces, towers and heritage sites that enchant with the grandeur and splendor of ancient architecture.
The inhabitants of the ancient kingdoms had little concept of science and technology, as we call them in modern terminology, but they built architectural masterpieces so precise in their calculations of area and size that they easily outwitted modern scientific principles.
These men, who belonged to many kingdoms, were skilled workers who worked with great efficiency and made beautiful monuments that are pleasing to the eye.
What special measures are taken to protect these monuments?
Many ancient architectural monuments and places have been protected by the Government of India under special and separate provisions exclusive to them, but their greatness is such that the world recognises them as mighty structures and has accorded them special forms of protection.
Similarly, UNESCO has recognized many important monuments in India and granted them the special status of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
These monuments receive special grants from the United Nations for conservation, structural maintenance and other improvements such as gardens, lawns, shelters, water features, adequate lighting, etc.
