Batwoman is officially in uncharted territory as CW’s hit series launched its second season in epic fashion on Sunday night. Following the release of Ruby Rose’s Kate Caine last summer, a brand new character will now take the iconic Batman mantle in the form of Javicia Leslie’s Ryan Wilder. What happened to Kate Kane in the season two premiere? Fans were able to see what Ryan’s original story would look like – and now we have a first glimpse of how that story will continue. The CW has released a preview of Previous Crime Story, the second episode of the second season of Batwoman, which you can watch below.

The episode shows that Ryan Wilder’s development as a criminal continues, albeit under unexpected circumstances. After briefly donning Batman a few times during the season premiere – mostly in hopes of getting revenge on Alice (Rachel Skarsten) and the Wonderland gang responsible for the death of his adoptive mother – Ryan will continue to struggle over what it means to be Batman for the great city of Gotham.

Leslie told reporters at a recent virtual press conference. And I really like that about her. I love the mess she can make because she has to find a way to refine it. She needs to find a way to focus. But I think that’s what makes it so special. It’s very authentic, very raw, [and] it’s very based on his beliefs. Really, it’s going to work. Mary will have to show him that there is a bigger picture. And sometimes it’s not about justice for your mother. It’s a journey she has to take to be able to forgive, or maybe not.

In addition, the episode should further highlight the rivalry between Alice and Safiya (Shivani Ghai), who has recently added to the tension by suggesting she was behind Kate Kane’s disappearance.

For Alice, Safiya is one of the characters she is truly afraid of. And someone who is probably an even bigger villain than Alice in the Soul, Skarsten said in an interview last year. I think it’s going to be interesting too, because it’s going to be the big disappointment of the season. So for me as an actor, it’s kind of funny because it changes Alice’s position in a way. I look forward to doing that and working with this different dynamic.

You can read a summary of the latest mystery below!

WARNING – After a brief stroll through the Batwing, Ryan Wilder (Javisia Leslie) returns to the daily challenges of life, just as they do. Meanwhile, Alice (Rachel Skarsten) has a nasty new plan to get the attention of Gotham and Safiya (guest star Shivaani Guy). With Kate still missing and the town in turmoil, Luke (Camrus Johnson) and Mary (Nicole Kang) are desperate for an antidote. Ryan takes off his costume again and meets Alice face to face for the first time. Back at Ravenclaw headquarters, Sophie and Commander Kane are trying to figure out who took revenge on Kate. Carl Seaton directed the episode, which was written by James Stotero and Chad Fivesch.

Batwoman Sundays at 8:07pm on CW. The previous thriller comes out on the 24th. Janvier was broadcast.
